Cebuano: An Introduction

Cebuano is derived from the name of a province in the Philippines Cebu + the Spanish suffix Ano (native of or from Cebu). It is spoken in most provinces in Visayas (Cebu, Bohol, Negros, Leyte) and Mindanao (Misamis, Lanao, Caraga, Davao). Cebuano is generally understood in almost all parts in Vis-Min, even if they have other dialects and slight differences in accent, intonation, etc. This comprehensive introductory class includes:

  • Salutations
  • Greetings
  • Self-Introduction
  • Useful Vocabulary/Phrases
  • Expressions
  • What, When, Where, Why, How

At the end of the session, participants should be able to introduce themselves in Cebuano and converse in basic phrases commonly spoken in Vis-Min.

This class is a simplified approach in learning the second most spoken language in the Philippines, from a Cebuano native speaker.

Week 2:     Pronouns (I, You, He/She, We, They)

Week 3:     Who, What, When, Where, Why, How

Week 4:     Unique Cebuano Words/Expressions

Atty. Lamayan is a proud Cebuana (“Bisaya”) who hails from Mindanao, Philippines. She had resided in Cebu City for 15 years and had lived and travelled in other Cebuano speaking cities in Visayas & Mindanao. She is a lawyer by profession and has worked in various sector in the Philippine government.
