Filipino for Beginners (Adult)

This 6-week class covers the basics of beginner’s Tagalog/Filipino. Students are immersed in the target language using communicative methods of instruction and all four modalities of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The curriculum provides students with sufficient language and cultural awareness to be engaged in basic daily conversations using simple sentence-level discourse.

Session 5 – Asking and following directions

Session 6 – My Health (Body parts and self-care)

Irene Gonzaga has two decades of extensive experience in teaching Filipino language to students of varied nationality, age, professional or educational background. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Filipino from De La Salle University in the Philippines. She then joined the faculty at DLSU-D teaching Filipino language and literature courses. From 2005 to 2010, Irene served as host to Fulbright scholars in the Advanced Filipinos Abroad Program of the University of Hawaii – Manoa who came to the Philippines for cultural immersion. This experience sparked her passion for teaching Filipino as a heritage language.
