Filipino Language for Beginners (6 Weeks) by Ivy Daulo


This 6-week class series is a beginner’s level course which will cover:

(Session 1) a brief background on the Philippines and an introduction to the Filipino language including pronunciation and common greetings;

(Session 2) common questions and responses in introductory conversations including family kinship terms;

(Session 3) common adjectives used to describe oneself, family, and friends;

(Session 4) common verbs and adverbs to describe likes, dislikes, and daily activities;

(Session 5) additional speech parts to expand sentences including enclitics, conjunctions, and interjections;

(Session 6) situation-based role-playing and conversational practice.

Various aspects of Filipino grammar such as sentence structures, pronoun sets, marker sets, and question words will be embedded throughout the classes. With this novice level series, students will gain experience in all four domains of language proficiency – listening, reading, writing, and speaking in Filipino.

Time and Date of Classes:

9:30 AM to 11:00 AM Manila Time, Mondays) starting February 22, March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 – 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM California Sundays (February 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21 and 28)

10:00 PM to 11:30 PM California Time Sundays (February 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21 and 28 which is 8:00 PM in Hawaii same day and 5:00 PM in Australia the next day/10:00 AM Dubai Next day)


Ivy Daulo is a Filipino language educator who holds a master’s degree in Education – Dual Language Development from California State University Long Beach & bachelor’s degrees in Sociology & Linguistics / Language Studies – Tagalog with a special minor in Philippine Studies from University of California San Diego. Ivy is a Los Angeles-based member of the Council of Teaching Filipino Language & Culture and has taught Filipino throughout 7 years for various audiences including elementary, high school, college, and adult levels.
