Intermediate Kids Filipino Language (8-12 years old)

This 8-week sessions class is designed to develop learner’s higher communicative competence in the target language which is Filipino. A combination of social and linguistic rules serves as the backbone of the instructional content. The class uses the functional-situational and communicative approach in learning the language. As a language learners are being taught the sound, grammar, and lexical system of the Filipino language. Common daily conditions such as meeting people, talking about situations, entertainment, shopping, dining, hobbies, and the like will be covered alongside with cultural situations illustrating Filipino worldview, traditions and common practices. Every lesson will also provide an opportunity to review and apply in a more practical sense the basic skills and high frequency vocabulary words introduced in the Beginning level class.

What This Class Covers

Session 1 – Review / Getting to know one another

Session 2 – Talking about your hobbies (Narrating past events)

Session 3 – My Daily activities (Talking about on-going and habitual events)

Session 4 – Travel (Talking about future / coming events)

Session 5- Celebrations, Occasions and Festivals (Dates and greetings)

Session 6 – Going to the market (Shopping / buying)

Session 7 – Visiting a doctor (Illness/Ailments/ Self-care)

Session 8 – Role-play

Description

Irene Gonzaga has two decades of extensive experience in teaching Filipino language to students of varied nationality, age, professional or educational background. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Filipino from De La Salle University in the Philippines. She then joined the faculty at DLSU-D teaching Filipino language and literature courses. From 2005 to 2010, Irene served as host to Fulbright scholars in the Advanced Filipinos Abroad Program of the University of Hawaii – Manoa who came to the Philippines for cultural immersion. This experience sparked her passion for teaching Filipino as a heritage language.
