Intermediate Filipino (Adults)    

This 8- week session class is an intermediate level course in the Filipino / Tagalog language. It is a continuation of the beginning level class, designed to introduce learners to structures and vocabulary necessary to be able to function in everyday social situations, participate in conversations dealing with daily routines and familiar topics. The focus of the course is on the development of learners’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills to be able to ask and answer questions on familiar topics, provide detailed narrations and descriptions, give and follow directions, read and write short informational texts and appropriately use common everyday expressions.

Session 1 – Review – greetings and self-introduction

Session 2 – Describing people, places and events (Adjectives)

Session 3 – My daily activities and hobbies (Subject-focus verbs)

Session 4 – Food and cooking (Object-focus verb)

Session 5 – Travelling (Transportations)

Session 6 – Making plans (Verb conjugation)

Session 7 – Going to the Market and stores

(Numbers / money and asking discounts)

Session 8 – Role Play

Description

Irene Gonzaga has two decades of extensive experience in teaching Filipino language to students of varied nationality, age, professional or educational background. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Filipino from De La Salle University in the Philippines. She then joined the faculty at DLSU-D teaching Filipino language and literature courses. From 2005 to 2010, Irene served as host to Fulbright scholars in the Advanced Filipinos Abroad Program of the University of Hawaii – Manoa who came to the Philippines for cultural immersion. This experience sparked her passion for teaching Filipino as a heritage language.
