Conversational Filipino Language for Intermediate Level 2 by Rona Co

This 8-week class series is an Intermediate Level 2 course, which will bounce off from our lessons from the Intermediate L1 Class. This course will focus on using conversational Filipino in real-life situations: 

 

Session 1: Rebyu. How much Filipino do you know? Articles and sentence formation.  

Session 2: G na G ka na ba? -ng, na, -g, and other ligatures that link adjacent words.

Session 3: Ganda ka? Mas maganda ako! Teka, magkasing-ganda kayo! Words we use to compare. 

Session 4: I have nothing! May, mayroon, magkaroon, wala!

Session 5: Makibaka! Makatulog! Other forms of verbs and intro to adverbs.

Session 6: Nakakaiyak! Nakakatawa! Nakakatakot! Let’s have a mini-film showing! 

Session 7: Kantahan tayo! Understanding some song lyrics and the “Lupang Hinirang.”

Session 8: Role play! Practical application of Filipino.

Description

Rona Co is a Philippine-based screenwriter by profession. She co-wrote some of the most talked-about ABS-CBN teleseryes you may have seen on iWant-TFC such as The Legal Wife, Forevermore, A Love To Last, and Ngayon at Kailanman. With her experience in writing for Philippine television, she was also able to crossover to the big screen, and co-wrote I Love You, Hater, First Love, and the massive hit Hello, Love, Goodbye, the Philippines’ current top grossing film of all time. 

Rona finished her Bachelor’s Degree major in Advertising Management at the De La Salle University, where she also took Master of Arts units in Applied Media Studies. Before becoming a screenwriter, she worked as a journalist, writing and curating stories that appeal to Filipinos living abroad. She was an Editor-in-Chief of One Philippines, a news magazine with distribution in several areas in North America; and also worked as an Editor for Silangan Shimbun, a newspaper for Pinoys in Japan. 

Since 2019, Rona has been taking improvisational theater workshops with Third World Improv, the Philippines’ premier improv school. With her mastery in writing sharp and snappy dialogues and her background in improv, Rona hopes to help her students learn useful conversational Filipino in a fun and engaging class.
