This is a beginning level Filipino class which is an introduction to the language as a tool for communication in simple social situations. Emphasis are on developing the four language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.  The course will allow learners to learn and practice language necessary in different social situations that involve turn-taking skills, courtesies, and initiating and ending a communication exchange. Aspects of culture are incorporated in the lessons.

Session 2 – Getting to know you (Personal Information/ likes and dislikes)

Session 3 – My Family (Members of the family – Immediate and extended)

Session 4 – My Home (Things/Objects and Parts of the House)

Session 5 – Directions (Going to places)

Session 6 – Health (Parts of the body)

Description

Irene Gonzaga has two decades of extensive experience in teaching Filipino language to students of varied nationality, age, professional or educational background. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Filipino from De La Salle University in the Philippines. She then joined the faculty at DLSU-D teaching Filipino language and literature courses. From 2005 to 2010, Irene served as host to Fulbright scholars in the Advanced Filipinos Abroad Program of the University of Hawaii – Manoa who came to the Philippines for cultural immersion. This experience sparked her passion for teaching Filipino as a heritage language.
