Ilocano Language for Beginners (6 Weeks)
Ilocano is the third most-spoken native language in the Philippines. It is spoken by approximately 11 million Filipinos mainly in Northern Luzon and several parts in Tarlac, Zambales, Aurora, and Nueva Ecija. It has slight mutual intelligibility with the Balangao language and the eastern dialects of the Bontoc language in the Mountain Province.
This 6-week beginner class emphasizes the learning or correct sounds and accent of the vocabulary related lessons, as well as of simple sentence patterns. At the end of the program, the participants will acquire the language skills needed to survive and communicate in the community of native Ilocano speakers. It covers the short sociological history of Ilocanos, social introductions, answering and asking simple questions, give and take messages, and food ordering and buying.
