Ilonggo for Beginners Level 1 (6 Weeks) by Cristy Ealdama

Hiligaynon, often referred as Ilonggo, is the second most widely spoken language in Visayas. It is spoken by more than 9.1 million people and the predominant language in Wester Visayas (Ilioilo, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental) and in other neighboring provinces such as Antique, Aklan, Negros Oriental, Masbate and Palawan.

This 6-week beginner class for Hiligaynon/Ilonggo will cover communication skills, vocabulary building, and cultural awareness. The class is designed to give focus on learning basic Hiligaynon/Ilonggo words and phrases that are often used in everyday interaction with the local community. Additional sessions will be conducted on the Ilonggo way of life, values, and cultural importance.

Week 2:    Language (Formal and Casual) Pronunciation

Week 3:     Location and Navigation

Week 4:     Numbers, Time, and Travel (Cultural)

Week 5:    Dining and Shopping

Description

Cristy hails from Iloilo City and fluently speaks Hiligaynon, Filipino and English. She is a graduate of BS Secondary Education major in English and History. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, she has been teaching English as Second Language (ESL) around Asia; in Korea, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Vietnam for more than a decade. She is currently a teaching primary and high school students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
